Lenovo Refreshes ThinkPad Ultrabooks with Slimmer Profiles, Hot Swappable Batteries
"Constant improvements and a strong ambition to always build a better laptop has resulted in thinner, lighter and longer lasting ThinkPad laptops with a simpler and cleaner design and up to an incredible 17 hours of battery life," said Dilip Bhatia, vice president, Marketing, Think Business Group, Lenovo. "After extensive research with hundreds of computer users around the world, Lenovo has reset the standard for business class Ultrabooks. The result of thousands of hours spent with consumers and business users have contributed to innovations and enhancements optimized for business and personal use. The new ThinkPad design meets the changing needs of IT managers and end-users."
One of the biggest upgrades to the new line of ThinkPads is Lenovo's new Power Bridge technology that allows users to swap external batteries without powering down their laptop. The hotswap feature is available with the ThinkPad 68 (23.5Wh), 68+ (72Wh, and 48Wh batteries, resulting in the above 17 hours of battery life claim.
Among the new models are ThinkPad T Series T440s and T440, X Series X240, and S Series S440 and S540. The T Series Ultrabooks offer up to 1TB of local storage or high speed solid state drives (SSDs), the latest generation Wi-Fi, optional 4G WWAN technology, and are just 21mm thin. Both are 14-inch laptops, the T440s with a touchscreen panel and the T440 wielding a non-touch display.
Lenovo's X240 is for mobile warriors who need extreme portability. It has a 12.5-inch Full HD display option with touch, 4th Generation Intel Core i7 processor options, 1TB of storage, and a 20.3mm thin frame.
Finally, the S Series is designed for "small businesses on the go." These offer a premium look and feel with beveled edges to give the impression of a floating PC and an ultra-thin bezel for larger screen sizes.
The ThinkPad T440s ($1,149), T440 ($899), and X240 ($1,099) will be available at the end of October; the ThinkPad S440 (€699) and S540 (€649) will be available in September and October, respectively, in selected markets.
