Samsung Offers Killer Deal On 850 EVO SSDs, Under 30 Cents Per Gig With Free Assassin's Creed Syndicate

If you haven't yet upgraded from a mechanical hard drive to a solid state drive, take the plunge and thank us later. The difference in performance across the board is both dramatic and noticeable, and though SSDs are comparatively pricey, there are deals to be had. One of them is Samsung's 850 EVO 500GB SSD at Amazon.

The online retailer is selling the 500GB model for $147.99 with free shipping for Prime members. That works out to less than 30 cents per gigabyte, and to sweeten the deal, Amazon will email a redemption code for Assassin's Creed Syndicate within 1-2 business days of making your purchase.

Samsung 850 EVO SSD

It's the best deal out of Samsung's 850 EVO SSD series, which also happens to be the same capacity as the one we reviewed (Spoiler: it's fast). However, Amazon's free game offer extends to capacities 500GB and above (as well as select Samsung Curved and UHD monitors).

Here's a look at how the pricing shakes out:

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

The 500GB capacity drive is the best value of the bunch, though if you need something bigger, the 1TB and 2TB models aren't far behind at around 34 cents per gigabyte. Only the 120GB stands out as a not-so-great deal at around 57 cents per gigabyte and no game code.

Samsung's 850 EVO line was the first to use 32-layer 3D V-NAND 3-bit MLC flash memory. That decision was key in driving down the cost of the drive without sacrificing endurance. While it's a mainstream line, Samsung's rated 540MB/s of sequential read and 520MB/s sequential write performance is pretty darn good for a SATA 6Gbps SSD.
