Cyanogen Theme Studio Takes Flight, Design Challenge Contest Announced

Cyanogen, a company that provides users with the ability to customize their Android smartphones, has announced a “Themes Challenge” contest. Themes is a new app from Cyanogen that will be able to host skins that are available to Cyanogen OS users.

The Cyanogen Theme Showcase launched on the Play Story earlier this year, allowing CM users to find a plethora of themes for the device of their choice. At the moment, the Themes app only supports free themes but will also support paid themes at some point in the future.

Those wishing to participate in the contest will be able to submit their theme by visiting the Themes Studio, creating an account, read the guidelines and template instructions, and then submit their theme through Themes Studio. Once submitted, a panel of Cyanogen employees will decide on the winners.

The first place winners will be able to choose one mobile device, out of two device options that will be announced later. The submissions will be judged by the following criteria:

  • Creativity and uniqueness of the design
  • Appeal of artistic expression and visual effects
  • Compliance with the design template and inclusion of the required design elements (completeness)

The submitted designs will also be made available through the release of the new Themes app which will arrive pre-loaded with a selection of devices that also comes pre-installed with Cyanogen OS.

The contest started on November 24 and will end December 14 at 5:00 PM PST. Winners will be announced on December 18.
