ASUS Debuts ROG Strix GL502 15-inch Gaming Notebook With Skylake, 4K Display, GTX 980M

ASUS is expanding its ROG Strix Series with a two new products, the most important of which is the first laptop to bare the Strix name: the GL502. Accompanying the new gaming laptop is the ROG Strix Wireless gaming headset, which is the perfect companion accessory for gamers.

But let’s get the most exciting product out of the way first. The ROG Strix GL502 is a 15.4-inch class gaming notebook that is available with either Full HD (1920x1080) or 4K Ultra HD display (3840X2160) options — both feature IPS panels, 178-degree viewing angles and non-glare coatings. The displays can be powered by up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

On the processor front, you have your choice of two Intel Skylake processors: the 2.6GHz Core i7-6700HQ (3.5GHz Boost) or the 2.7GHz Core i7-6820HK (3.6GHz Boost) paired with up to 32GB of 2133MHz DDR4 memory. Storage options are plentiful, with 5400RPM hard drives available in 1TB and 2TB capacities along with a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive. PCIEx4 M.2 SSDs are available in 256GB and 512GB capacities, while you can opt for lower-performing SATA3 M.2 SSDs in 128GB and 256GB capacities.

Connectivity options for the 5-pound ROG Strix GL502 are plentiful, as you’ll find HDMI 1.4, a RJ45 network connection, Mini DisplayPort 1.2, one USB 3.1 Type-C port and three USB 3.0 ports. Wireless connectivity is handled by 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

In addition to the ROG Strix GL502, ASUS has also announced the ROG Strix Wireless, which is a gaming headset that uses 2.4GHz wireless technology for untethered audio freedom. ASUS claims “interference-free wireless connection” and “crystal-clear sound” with a range of 15 meters.

The ROG Strix wireless provides 7.1 virtual surround sound, a built-in 900 mAh battery that provides over 10 hours of runtime per charge, and is compatible with the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and just about any smartphone or tablet that you throw at it.

Unfortunately, pricing and availability has not yet been provided for either the ROG Strix GL502 or the ROG Strix Wireless.
