Sony PlayStation 4 Falls To Just $300 In Japan

Sony is planning to cut the price of its popular PlayStation 4 console in Japan to 34,980 yen, or about $292 when converted to U.S. currency. The price reduction will go into effect on October 1, 2015, and only applies to Japan, though it's notable because it's the first time Sony has lowered the price of its PS4 system.

If we're wearing our wishful thinking caps, we'd like to think that Sony might follow suit with a price drop in Europe to coincide with the Paris Games Week conference taking place later this month, which in turn could lead to a price cut in the U.S. market during the PlayStation Experience show.

Then reality gut punches us right in the jejunum to remind us that the PlayStation 4 is the top selling console in the U.S., giving Sony little reason to drop the price from $400 (we're talking about the 500GB version here -- the 1TB model hasn't launched in either Japan or the U.S. yet).

For those of you contemplating a PS4 purchase, you can stretch your dollar by buying one of the available bundles.
