Phablet Envy: Huawei Unveils Premium 6-Inch Mate 8 With Marshmallow And Massive 4,000 mAh Battery
While most of us get ready to carve into turkeys and dive into fixings, Chinese phone maker Huawei was busy unwrapping its latest mobile device, the Mate 8, a premium phablet with a 6-inch Full HD 1080p display. As is vogue right now, the Mate 8 features a seamless aluminum design with a gold (is best!) color option.
The Mate 8 is the first handset to rock Huawei's new Kirin 950 System-on-Chip. That gives the phone an octa-core foundation consisting of four ARM Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.3GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.. There's also an "i5" intelligent coprocessor inside (not to be confused with Intel's Core i5 line) for low-power chores like running the sensor hub.
There's a back-mounted fingerprint sensor that sits just beneath the 16-megapixel rear camera. Other features include 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of built-in storage, 8-megapixel front camera, and a rather capacious 4,000 mAh battery. Huawei also confirmed the phone will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow when it's released.
A lot of what Huawei had to say about the Mate 8 had to do with the phone's construction. The company was shooting for a "refined look and feel" with a 2.5D curved diamond cut glass and 83-percent screen-to-body ratio. The body is made from aerospace grade aluminum and will ship in four color options, including Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown.
Huawei said the Mate 8 will be available in China sometime in the first quarter of next year. More information will be available when the Mate 8 gets a second introduction at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
