Google's Selling Close to 1 Million Nexus 7 Tablets Each Month
Google's been tight-lipped about how many Nexus 7 tablets it's sold to date, but that's okay, because the manufacturer went and spilled the jelly beans. According to Asus, Nexus 7 sales are fast approaching 1 million units per month, or about twice as many as when it was launched several months ago.
"At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500,000 units a month, then maybe 600,000 or 700,000, This latest month, it was close to 1 million," Asus Chief Financial Officer David Chang told The Wall Street Journal.
Chang's figure falls in line with most analysts' estimates, who had pegged third quarter Nexus 7 sales at around 800,000 to 1 million units a month after analyzing Google's revenue numbers, WSJ says.
Compare that to Apple's third quarter iPad sales of 14 million units, which accounted for more than half of the estimated 25 million overall tablet sales around the globe.
Many consider the Nexus the best 7-inch tablet on the market. To make it even more enticing, Google recently introduced a 32GB Nexus 7 model at the $249 price point, which was previously occupied by the 16GB model. The 16GB Nexus 7 was dropped down to the $199 tier, replacing the 8GB model in Google's lineup.
Google isn't just looking to compete in the 7-inch category. The company recently introduced the Nexus 10, a $399 tablet that boasts the highest resolution of any available slate.
