Forget That Pre-Order, Oculus Rift VR Kits On Sale At Best Buy This Week
Forget about aggravating pre-orders; the Oculus Rift VR headset will be for sale on May 7th at Best Buy. They will be available online and at 48 of Best Buy’s retail stores (and online in desktop bundles, which will give you savings of $100 to $200). The Oculus Rift can also be ordered online on May 7th from Amazon.com and Microsoft.com.
Last month we reported that Oculus was experiencing shipping delays for pre-orders, thanks in part to a component shortage.
The available Oculus Rifts will include the headset, the sensor to translate your movements into VR, the Oculus remote, an Xbox One controller, cables and the VR-compatible game Lucky's Tale. The website also notes in tiny font that in order to run the Oculus, you will need NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970/AMD R9 290 equivalent or higher, Intel Core i5-4590 equivalent or higher, 8GB RAM or more, compatible HDMI 1.3 video output, 3 USB 3.0 ports plus 1 USB 2.0 port, and Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or later. You will also need to be connected to the internet in order to use the Rift.
Those that have already pre-ordered have the option of purchasing from retail instead while still keeping their pre-order benefits such as the EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack and priority status for Touch pre-orders. If readers are interested, they can go to their order status and let Oculus know they have purchased a Rift at retail. Oculus will then cancel their pre-order.
Oculus is also working on getting Rift demos into Best Buy stores with playable games like Dreamdeck, The Climb, and Farlands. Those interested in a hands-on demo can see if a Best Buy location near you is providing an "Oculus Experience".
