Despite Xbox One and PS4, EA Confirms Support For Existing Consoles Through At Least 2017

Console gamers haven’t had to think about the issue of backwards compatibility much in recent years, as both Microsoft and Sony haven’t bothered to release new consoles for a long time. With the impending releases of the new Xbox One and PS4, though, several years of titles on the previous-gen consoles could suddenly be relegated to legacy status.

Xbox One

Although it’s not exactly everyone’s favorite company at the moment, Electronic Arts will reportedly continue to make games for the current generation of gaming consoles. According to GameSpot, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen told a crowd at the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference confirmed that the company will keep publishing games through 2017, and possibly later.

PS4 presentation

That’s probably wise, as although a lot of people will be eagerly snapping up the new consoles judging from what we know about the Xbox One and PS4 so far, plenty of folks will save their money and stick with the Xbox 360 and PS3 for a while.
