Last Minute Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Edge Leak Includes Next Generation Gear VR Headset

Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Samsung is getting ready to formally introduce its next phablet device, the Galaxy Note 7, which it will unveil tomorrow at its Unpacked event in New York City, London, and Rio de Janeiro. There's been a large amount of leaks leading up the Note 7's launch so there might not be too many surprises in store. Even here in the home stretch there's been one last leak that reveals Samsung will also launch a new generation Gear VR headset alongside the Note 7.

Famed and reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, more famously known to some by his Twitter handle @OnLeaks, posted several official looking press renders of the Galaxy Note 7 on his French language website NowhereElse.fr, along with a solo shot of the Oculus-powered Gear VR, which measures 207 x 122 x 98.5mm (WxHxD) and weighs 300g.

There aren't a lot of details available about the new Gear VR, though it's said to have a larger field of view (110 degrees versus 96 degrees) and a USB-C port for connecting to the Galaxy Note 7. Hemmerstoffer says it will also be compatible with the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 Edge+. There's no mention of price, only that it will be available in France next month.

As to the Galaxy Note 7, Hemmerstoffer reiterated much of what is presumably already known about the device based on prior leaks. If his information is accurate, it will have a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560x1440 resolution powered by an eight-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz with 4GB of RAM. It will also feature a front-facing 5-megapixl camera, rear-facing 12-megapixel camera, fingerprint scanner, 64GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, 3,500 mAh battery, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

You can book yourself a front row seat to the unveiling without leaving your home—Samsung plans to stream the event live. It starts tomorrow at 11 am ET.
