PlayStation 4 2.50 Update To Bring Suspend/Resume For Games And Backup/Restore To USB
Sony today said it's readying an update for the PlayStation 4 that it plans to start rolling out tomorrow (Thursday). Codenamed "Yukimura," the system software update to version 2.50 will "bring an onslaught" of features to the PS4 console, several of which are the result of user requests and others that "might surprise you."
One of the bigger feature additions is the ability to suspend and resume nearly all PS4 games. If something comes up and you need to scoot, just press the PS button to suspend a title. The new feature will allow you to quickly switch from Rest Mode to powered-up so you can pick up right where you left off, Sony says.
The other biggie is the ability to backup and restore the PS4's hard drive to USB. All data associated with users on the PS4 can be copied to and from a USB drive, including settings, saved data, screen shots, video clips, games, patches, and download data.
Sony also spent a lot of time on the social side of things. After applying the 2.50 software update, you'll be able to search for and connect with friends on Facebook, join friends directly from the news feed, send friend requests and real name request together in one step, enjoy a streamlined party process that requires less steps, and more.
"We’re excited for you to get your hands on these new features and experience them for yourselves. You have all been such a big part of our successes, and we have carefully listened to your requests to make your PlayStation experiences even better," Sony said in a blog post.
Not all requested features made it into the update, such as DLNA support and displaying total time spent playing on the PS4. However, Sony asks that users keep the feedback coming, so if you'd like to see those features added, drop them a line.
