Microsoft Outlook Update Supports Android Wear For Email On Your Wrist

If you're an Outlook user on Android and also happen to own an Android Wear device, you're in luck -- Microsoft has just released a new update that adds support for smartwatches. At the moment, the update can be snagged from the Google Play store in some areas, but in the event your device isn't pulling down the latest version, you can manually snag the update here. Note that the up-to-date version is 2.1.0 (Google Play currently shows 2.0.57 for us.)

According to the folks over at Android Central, Microsoft sums up the update, writing, "This week, we're bringing the best of Outlook to Android Wear. Stop reaching out for your phone, everything is now happening on your watch. Check your Outlook notifications, read your new emails and reply with pre-set messages or voice dictation right from your wrist. It's never been that easy to manage your inbox."

With Outlook for Android Wear, users can simply look at their wrist if an email hits their inbox, which is a major perk if you want to leave your phone in your pocket (or elsewhere) while out-and-about. Based on the shots above, it looks like Microsoft's done a great job with the app's aesthetics as well - it definitely looks like Outlook.

Outlook isn't the first foray Microsoft has had with Android Wear. A couple of years ago, the company released a "prototype" custom keyboard for the platform that allowed you to write messages by drawing letters on the screen. It's probably safe to say that given the app hasn't seen an update in a year-and-a-half, it's dead. We'd bet the Outlook Android Wear app won't suffer the same fate given Microsoft's newfound fondness for cross-platform software.
