Jaunt VR App Lets You Experience Sir Paul McCartney In 3D On Your Google Cardboard Smartphone VR Device
It appears that Sir Paul McCartney is joining The Who in providing a virtual experience. But rather than relive history, VR enthusiasts will be able to experience McCartney’s final concert, which took place earlier this year, at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park in 3D. VR startup company Jaunt has released the 3D experience, its first piece of content, which can be used with Google Cardboard.
“Today we have released this spectacular experience to the public, “said Jaunt co-founder Jens Christensen.” Feel as though you’re by Sir Paul’s side as he plays “Live and Let Die” - see it in 360-degree, stereoscopic 3D, hear it with ambisonic audio, and immersive yourself in cinematic VR. It’s like nothing you have seen, heard, or felt before.”
In order to watch the concert in 3D, users will need a recent 5 or 6-inch smartphone and the Google Cardboard virtual reality viewer. Back in June, Google revealed the Cardboard VR device, designed to be used with smartphones, that can be built for cheap with items found around the house or at a local hardware store. But while McCartney fans will only be able to see the 3D concert using Google Cardboard right now, the experience will also be coming to the Oculus Rift “soon.”
Jaunt, which was founded in April 2013, has been developing a platform that focuses on cinematic VR by making high-end 360 degree cameras for capturing 3D video and software to help merge the camera feed and 3D audio into a special file that can be played on VR headsets. While this concert is its first release, it has begun to partner with other creative professionals to produce even more content.
