Google Preps $129 Home WiFi Router For October Hardware Event
Google is rumored to be launching a number of new hardware products at its October hardware event including new Pixel Nougat smartphones and its Google Home speaker. Rumor also has it that Google plans on announcing a $129 Wi-Fi router at this event.
Although the Google Wi-Fi router is shrouded in mystery, a few tidbits of gossip have been recently swirling around the internet. For starters, the Google router is supposedly dual-band, offers AC 1200 speeds, and includes Bluetooth connectivity. It is also expected to have much better range than your typical router, along with the ability to link multiple Google Wi-Fi access points to create one large wireless network.
It is unclear whether the router will be branded as a Google OnHub device, however, it is almost certain that it will be compatible the OnHub App. This would imply that the router would incorporate IFTTT compatibility, device connection management, auto security updates, and the ability to set up hubs for various members of a family.
The Wi-Fi router will be announced alongside other Google devices such as the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, a 4K Chromecast, Google Home, and a Daydream VR viewer device. The Pixel XL is expected to boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a USB Type-C port, 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, and Android 7.0 Nougat.
Daydream is a more advanced replacement for Google Cardboard and uses a new VR Mode that’s incorporated into Nougat. Google Home is a customizable, voice-activated Wi-Fi speaker and the 4K Chromecast is rumored to be called the Chromecast Plus or Chromecast Ultra.
