343 Industries Hints Halo 5 Could Eventually Make Leap From Xbox One To PC

Fans of Halo who don't happen to own an Xbox would do well to pay attention to a little snippet that just came out of an interview with Microsoft's Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor. When questioned about whether or not we'd ever see Halo 5 on the PC, he gave the impression that it could indeed happen.

"There is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC", he says, but he's quick to follow up with, "Nothing to announce at this point." However, giving us all the hope in the world that this could happen, he notes that the game was developed on Intel PCs, so it wouldn't be "the hardest thing in the world" to port it over and "take advantage of PC stuff."

Halo 5

It's too early to get too excited, but let's be honest: if this were to happen, it'd be huge. While Halo has appeared on the PC on certain occasions, there hasn't been a direct port of the later games. Before the series really blew up in popularity, PC gamers were able to enjoy Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, but once Halo 3 dropped, it became Xbox-exclusive. Other mobile-focused titles, Halo: Spartan Strike and Halo: Spartan Assault, also came to the PC. But those hardly satiated the appetites of any Xbox-less Halo fan.

At this point, it almost seems like a pipe dream to imagine that this could happen, but Microsoft is a lot more gung-ho about PC gaming with the release of Windows 10. Windows 10 even has a built-in Xbox app, and now, the Xbox One can stream gameplay over to a PC, and vice versa. It doesn't seem outside the realm of believability that this could in fact happen.

It's worth noting that some other Microsoft games have made a similar leap, such as the upcoming Fable Legends, a free-to-play game that will be exclusive to the Xbox One and Windows.

What is clear at this point is that if Halo 5 does in fact hit the PC, it's likely to come so far in the future that some of the luster will have been lost. Well - unless it manages to keep the hype like Grand Theft Auto V.
