One of the promises Intel made when launching its Kaby Lake architecture yesterday was that its 7th generation Core processors would allow OEMs to build increasingly thinner and lighter devices. Well, Acer didn't waste any time proving Intel right by today unveiling the Swift 7, the world's first laptop to measure less than 1 centimeter. This svelte machine has a waistline of only 0.39 inches (9.98mm) while tipping the scale at just 2.48 pounds (1.1kg). Those metrics are a boon for portability, as is the rated battery life of up to 9 hours. Yes, we've seen systems rated to run even longer, but... Read more...
Acer rightfully says there's a new sheriff in town, that being its new Predator 21 X laptop, a mammoth system that's packed to the gills with high-end hardware. This crazy thing even has a curved screen display—it's the first laptop in the world to offer that amenity, which comes by way of a 21-inch panel with a 2,200R curvature and 2560x1080 resolution. If we can fixate on the display for a moment, this looks to be a highlight of a laptop with several bragging points. It uses an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, which typically means generous viewing angles and more accurate color reproduction compared... Read more...
One thing is for sure: if you're in the market for a new gaming notebook - especially one featuring NVIDIA's brand-new GeForce cards - you're not going to suffer from a lack of choice. We've written about a handful of different vendor notebooks so far, and not to be forgotten, Acer has finally tossed its hat into the ring. Acer hasn't produced brand-new models to support NVIDIA's latest GPUs, but instead updated its popular Predator 15 and Predator 17 notebooks. However, there is something a bit odd: Acer hasn't yet said exactly which GPUs will be featured in these models. That said, the outgoing... Read more...

If you've shopped at Acer's US website at any point between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016, you have immediate reason for concern. Acer has just revealed to the California Attorney General's office that its ecommerce servers were hit last spring, and remained vulnerable up until this spring. Unfortunately, this isn't a mere case of someone gaining access to names and addresses - it gets much worse. Acer admits that credit card information could have been fetched by these third parties, which includes not only the credit card number, but also the CCV security code and expiry date. It's not clear... Read more...
Don’t worry, we are not talking about a $199 body wash here. In July, Acer will release the Liquid Zest Plus, its latest and greatest LTE smartphone. It also has a 5-megapixel... Read more...
Earlier this morning, we brought you news of fresh Switch 2-in-1 convertibles and business-class TravelMate notebooks from Acer. Not to be left out, the company has also revealed a pretty swanky 32-inch monitor that many people would love to have sitting on their desk at home (or at the office). The Acer BM320 measures 32-inch diagonally and comes with a 4K UHD screen resolution (3840x2160). Acer says that display offers “professional-grade” color accuracy, with the ability to display 100 percent of the Adobe RGB color gamut. If that wasn’t tough, the BM320 covers 100 percent of the Rec. 709 and... Read more...
It’s getting harder for Microsoft to ignore the growing market for low-cost Chromebook computers. Microsoft is looking to beat back the rebel insurgency by partnering with OEMs to crank out economical Windows 10 notebooks and convertibles — even if those OEMs have already given in to the “dark side”, like Acer. To that end, Acer has announced two new 2-in-1 laptops that pack plenty of features, yet won’t break the bank when you’re ready to pull the trigger on a purchase. And as you might expect, both machines are running Windows 10. The Switch One 10 and Switch V 10 both features 10.1-inch IPS... Read more...
Acer held a global press conference yesterday at 4 World Trade Center in New York City, to reveal a wide array of new products. Acer showed off everything from a fitness-related wearables, to a bicycle-mounted computer, new smartphones, ultra-portables, and gaming PCs. We posted up some press-shots and technical details of the new Acer Switch Alpha 12, and new Predator G1 small form factor system and Predator 17x gaming notebook, as Acer was making the announcements yesterday. However, we were also present at the event to get some hands-on time with Acer’s new products. The Acer Switch Alpha 12... Read more...
Acer is hoping to make a splash in the ultraportable market with its brand new Switch Alpha 12 2-in-1 notebook. Unlike some other thin and light machine that make use of Skylake-based Core m3, m5 and m7 processors, the Switch Alpha 12 goes for the throat with Core i3, i5, and i5 processors featuring more performance at the expense of greater heat output. However, Acer has an answer for the heat production in the form of its LiquidLoop cooling system. Ultrabooks and tablets running Core M/m processors have traditionally been able to do so while remaining fanless. The Switch Alpha 12, with its more... Read more...
Acer is expanding its Predator gaming lineup once again, and the latest members to this rowdy group include a new notebook, desktop and a family of curved display monitors. According to Acer, these new Predator products are all “virtual reality-ready” out of the box. First up is the Predator 17X notebook, which as its name implies comes with a 17.3-inch display -- G-SYNC-enabled of course. Unlike many 17.3-inch panels that come with a 1080p screen resolution, the Predator 17X is packing a 4K display (3840×2160). Powering the machine is an Intel Core i7-6820HK Skylake processor and an NVIDIA GeForce... Read more...
Is there anything Chrome can't do? In addition to helping us browse the Internet with our desktops and mobile devices along with streaming content to our televisions, Google has added "meetings" to Chrome's growing repertoire. This venture is called Chromebase, and is in a way a "poor-man's Surface Hub" functionality. The first company out with a product is Acer, with the $800 CA24V. Similar to the aforementioned Surface Hub, Chromebase is designed to give meeting-goers a better, more intuitive collaborative experience. Part of the charm here is the fact that the display is a touch screen, and... Read more...
The ultra-limited 14-inch Chromebook category grew by a single model today with the introduction of Acer's CB3-431, one of just two 14-inch Chromebook models on the planet (HP owns the other) and the only one to boast up to an impressive 14 hours of battery life for all day and night productivity and fun. That battery life claim applies to the HD version, which sports a 1366x768 display resolution. Acer also offers a Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) version, and while Acer doesn't suggest you can squeeze 14 hours of run time out of the thing, it's rated up to a still impressive 12 hours, plenty to get... Acer's blitzing the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with several new products, and included among them are a bunch of additions to its monitor lineup. Featuring high quality in-plane switching (IPS) panels, each of the new monitors bring something unique to the table, starting with the incredibly thin profile of the R1 Series. Every monitor maker out there is building increasingly thin displays, but the R1 Series by Acer happens to be the world's slimmest with an enclosure that measures a scant 7mm. The monitors in the R1 Series also boast a ZeroFrame design to make the most of their... Read more...
