Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10565 Hits Fast Ring With Edge, Cortana Enhancements
“Windows as a Service” has kicked into high gear courtesy of Windows 10, and Microsoft just released the latest test build to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10565, which is being released nearly a month after Build 10547, brings a number of enhancements to the overall Windows 10 experience and a bevy of bug fixes.
On the “enhancements” front, there are new universal Windows apps for Messaging, Phone, and Skype. The Microsoft Edge web browser has gained a nifty new Tab Preview function that allows you to get a quick glimpse at a webpage by hovering over its tab. Edge has also gained the ability to sync Favorites and your Reading list, however, Microsoft’s Gabe Aul warns that this features is still in testing so all of the bugs haven’t been worked out yet.
Cortana has been upgraded with the ability to “intelligently understand” your handwritten notes, and setup reminders based on the information gleaned. Cortana is also gaining functionality that brings it more on par with Google Now, such as the ability to snoop through your emails to keep tabs on your upcoming visit to the movie theater or other ticketed events (i.e. a flight booking or sports event).
“Two hours prior to the event start time, you’ll get helpful information to be sure you know where to go and get there on time, including an option to book and track an Uber ride directly from Cortana,” explained Aul.

Microsoft has squashed a number of bugs with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10565, however, there are also a few new bugs that this latest build has introduced back into the fray. Those include a serious bug in the Xbox app that will “consume gigabytes of memory” when Win32 games are identified, the removal of WebM and VP9 support, and issues with small form-factor tablets when trying to upgrade to this latest build.
