Tag Heuer’s $1400 Android Wear Smartwatch Arrives In November, Lasts 40 Hours Per Charge

In the hunt for the connected wrist, Tag Heuer has set early autumn for the introduction of their first product offering in the smartwatch space, an Android Wear device whose bow will serve to make the company the biggest Swiss entrant into the burgeoning market.

The Tag Heuer smartwatch will last approximately 40 hours on a single charge, and will thus perform over twice as long the new big player in the space, the Apple Watch, this according to Jean-Claude Biver, the head of watchmaking activity for LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (owner of the Tag Heuer brand).

In an interview, Biver professed that Apple Watch may cause those in the younger market demographics to develop an interest in adorning their wrists for the first time, going on to say that in this manner the Cupertino company may very well spur the market for Tag Heuer.

"I hope they sell millions and millions and millions of them...the more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer.”

As HotHardware reported last month, Tag Heuer is working with both Google and Intel in developing their first smartwatch. Curiously, even though the Tag Heuer watch will be manufactured in Switzerland it will not carry the ubiquitous "Swiss made" label due to the fact that its microprocessor will come from outside the country.

The Tag Heuer smartwatch will not mark the Swiss company's first push into high-tech devices, as in 2008 the company took the Meridiist mobile phone to market, and in 2013 they outfitted the America's Cup team Oracle Team USA with TAG Heuer electronic wristwatches that could indicate both boat speed and wind direction.

At $1,400 the price of a Tag Heuer's connected timepiece will significantly exceed that of all of the smartwatch devices currently on the market, with the exception of the gold-laden Apple Watch Edition, which currently retails from $10,000 to $17,000.
