Samsung's Versatile SE370 Monitors Deliver AMD FreeSync And Wirelessly Charge Your Smartphone

Here’s another innovative product straight from the “Why didn’t I think of that?” file. Samsung has introduced the new SE370 gaming monitor series which brings clutter-free, wireless charging support for your smartphone (or other supported mobile devices).

Wireless (inductive) charging is accomplished using the Qi wireless standard, which was developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). When a compatible device is placed on the circular charging area built into the monitor’s stand, an LED lights up to confirm that the device is being recharged. It’s a simple and effective way to recharge your smartphone and makes a perfect companion for Samsung’s latest flagships — the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge — which both support wireless charging.

Both the 23.6-inch (S24E370DL) and 27-inch (S27E370DS) PLS displays feature a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1920x1080 screen resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 4ms response time, 178-degree viewing angles and a glossy white finish. In addition, the SE370 series also has what Samsung calls an “eye-saver mode” that limits the amount of “harmful” blue light emitted, which helps to reduce eye strain. And both monitors are supported by Apple’s OS X and have gained full Microsoft Windows 10 certification.

But that’s not all, Samsung is also catering to gamers — or at least gamers with AMD Radeon graphics cards — with the inclusion of AMD FreeSync technology which synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to the graphics card to help eliminate lag and screen tearing/stuttering.

The wireless charging market is really starting to heat up, as the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) — both competitors to the Qi — decided to join forces back in May. In addition, the Qi spec itself received a boost late last month with the addition of 15-watt charging. This fast charging support can take a completely drained battery to 60 percent capacity in just 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t yet provided us with information on pricing and availability for the S24E370DL and S27E370DS, so stay tuned!
