MediaTek Helio P10 Delivers Eight Cores And LTE Cat 6 To Mid-Range Phones

MediaTek continues to flesh out its next-generation mobile processor lineup with the introduction of the Helio P10, a "high-performance, high-value" System-on-Chip (SoC) aimed at slim form-factor smartphones. The P10 is MediaTek's first offering in its new Helio P family of chips for premium performance mobile devices, which are a step down from the Helio X family for the extreme performance category.

Just last month, MediaTek rolled out the X20, a 10-core (deca-core) mobile part with eight 64-bit Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 2GHz and two Cortex-A72 cores clocked up to 2.5GHz. The newly announced Helio P10 isn't far behind -- it's a true octa-core design with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz paired with a dual-core 64-bit Mali-T860 GPU.

Beyond raw clockspeed and lots of processing cores, the P10 also delivers several of MediaTek's "premier" technologies, things like LTE Cat-6 supporting 2x20 carrier aggregation with 300/50Mbps data speeds, an advanced task scheduling algorithm, CorePilot technology that sends workloads to the CPU or GPU (or both), and non-contact heart rate monitoring.

On the multimedia side, the P10 features hi-fidelity audio (110dB SNR and -95dB THD) and can deliver Full HD 1080p at 60FPS through its integrated MiraVision 2.0 display technologies.

The P10 is the first chip built on TSMC's 28nm HPC+ process, which allows for reduced power consumption. Combined with various architecture and circuit design optimizations, MediaTek says the Helio P10 can save up to 30 percent more power compared to existing SoCs build on a 28 HPC process.

Look for phones running the new chip to debut later this year.
