Amazon Announces New Fire HD 8 Reader's Edition Tablet Bundle For Nighttime Bookworms

Are you the type of person who has to read a chapter or two of whichever book you're engrossed in before hitting the pillow for some Zs? If so, you're a prime candidate for a new bundle from Amazon that packages its previously announced Fire HD 8 tablet with some tantalizing extras, including a year of Kindle Unlimited.

That right there gives you access to over 1 million books. The bundle also includes a limited a edition rustic leather cover. Packaged together, the Fire HD 8 Reader's Edition, as Amazon is calling it, costs a cool $250. If you were to purchase each item separately, the retail cost would run just a dime and four pennies shy of $350.

Amazon Fire HD 8 Reader's Edition

"Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition simply delivers the best reading experience on any tablet," said Charlie Tritschler, Vice President, Amazon Devices. "With an incredibly thin and light design and 8-inch HD color display, this is the perfect tablet for reading—a year of Kindle Unlimited with access to over a million books, plus innovative new features like Blue Shade—now even more readers can curl up in bed with their favorite stories."

One of the main selling points of the Fire HD 8 is the Blue Shade feature that Mr. Tritschler calls out in his pitch. It's exclusive to Amazon and what it does is use specialized filters to limit exposure to blue light, which can make it difficult to fall asleep. It also provides ultra-low brightness for reading in dark rooms and utilizes warm color filters.

At just 7.7mm thin and weighing just 311 grams (11 ounces), you should have no trouble holding the Fire HD 8 for extended periods, like plowing your way through War and Peace. And if you don't feel like reading, you can watch movies, play games, listen to music, and flip through photos on the Fire HD 8 as well.

The Fire HD 8 Reader's Edition is available to pre-order now and will ship on December 8.
