Google Fit App For Android Arrives To Play Store Challenging Apple HealthKit, S Health And Others

A growing trend in mobile is fitness, and if you're concerned about your health, there are tools available to help you reach your fitness goals. It's not just one platform either -- Apple is pushing HealthKit, Samsung has S Health, and Google is officially in the game with Google Fit, a new Android app capable of tracking your activity.

With Google Fit installed, just carrying your phone in your pocket is enough to track your walking, running, and cycling activity. There's no voodoo magic going on, the app uses your phone's built-in sensors and is capable of displaying information from any third-party app or service that uses the Fit API.

You can set and monitor your fitness goals based on your activity levels, so it's not a one-size-fits-all affair. It is, however, a convenient tool for keeping tabs on yourself and discovering how active you really are versus how active you think you might be. It's also motivational, in that you can set specific fitness goals and check on your progress as you go.

"You can also connect your favorite fitness devices and apps like Strava, Withings, Runtastic, Runkeeper and Noom Coach to Google Fit and we’ll surface all of the relevant data in one spot, giving you a clear and complete view of your fitness. No need to check one app to see your weight and another to review a run – with Google Fit, that data will all be surfaced in one, simple place," Google stated in a blog post.

Google Fit is compatible with all Android Wear devices, along with smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 and up. You can download Google Fit here, and/or access Google Fit on the web.
