Temple Run 2 Hits 50 Million Downloads in 2 Weeks, All Time Record

It's kind of ironic that a game classified as an endless runner would race to 50 million downloads in just shy of two weeks, making it the fastest growing mobile of all time. Temple Run 2, the game in question, also sprinted to the No. 1 spot in iOS's Free Apps category not long after it launched on January 17, as well as taking pole position on Google Play and Amazon Marketplace.

Imangi Studios has to be thrilled with what could end up an iconic franchise. The original Temple Run was also successful, notching over 170 million downloads to date.

"Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us," says Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi. "The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time."

Perhaps taking a cue from Rovio and its wildly popular Angry Bird series, Imangi Studios isn't just focused on mobile games revenue. Temple Run has expanded to include apparel with JEM sportswear, it's available in digital comic form through Ape Entertainment, and it's featured on card and board games with Spin Master, to name a few of the licensing partnerships.
