Mighty Mouse? EVGA's Torq X10 Reviewed

If your any kind of a computing enthusiast, you're quite familiar with EVGA, even if you haven't bought and of their hardware. From power supplies to motherboards and graphics cards, the company has established a solid reputation for producing high-quality, enthusiast equipment. EVGA recently sent over one of their new Torq X10 gaming mice -- does this new entrant into the crowded high-end mouse market deserve your gaming dollar? Let's take a look.

Ask ten gamers if a high-end mouse is important for gaming and you'll likely hear universal agreement. Ask them to name the best gaming mouse, and you may end up with a fight on your hands. Just as mechanical keyboards have their various types of keycaps and switches (and rigid adherents to particular philosophies), there are multiple schools of thought on which type of input sensor is best, whether or not a mouse should be ambidextrous, and what kind of software features (if any) are best for a quality gaming experience.

Over the years I've used a number of gaming mice from Razer, Logitech, and Corsair. My current favorite mouse (and the product I'll be comparing to for this review) is a Corsair M65. Like the Torq X10, the M65 is an 8200 DPI mouse with laser sensors, eight programmable buttons, a unibody aluminum design, -- and, tellingly, the M65 has a $48 current price at NewEgg. In order to beat competition like this, the Torq X10 is going to have to deliver a very high value. Some of its features, like the high-DPI sensor, are right on target -- but does the total product measure up?
