Microsoft Launches Fake Destiny Fragrance Ad, Reminds Gamers That Destiny Is On Xbox

If you haven’t noticed by now, all of the Destiny trailers have been focused on PlayStation and, more recently, showcasing all of the exclusive content that will be available on Sony’s PlayStation consoles. However, Microsoft UK isn’t going to sit back and let people think that Destiny is only coming to the PS3 and PS4.

To generate awareness that Destiny is also available on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, Microsoft UK has begun its own unofficial advertising campaign with Destiny Fragrance. Heading over to DestinyFragrance.com brings up a cheeky little picture of a perfume bottle with the word “Destiny” on it and the Xbox logo. In addition, there is a message that reads, “The new fragrance by Xbox.”

However, clicking the “Discover More” button brings up a message from Microsoft regarding the lack of Xbox advertising that states, “Okay, so here’s the lowdown. Destiny is actually an epic new first-person shooter, available on Xbox. Thing is, we didn’t have permission to run adverts for the game.”

So we didn’t. Thanks for smelling that something was up. Now get the game and become a legend.”

It is no surprise that Microsoft would want to advertise Destiny on its own console. The FPS title has been shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year and a great reason to buy the current generation of consoles. However, Sony was able to make a deal with Activision for exclusive content and advertising which leaves Microsoft with little recourse if it wants consumers to be aware that the game is also on Xbox.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft has also launched a promotion for the Xbox One. From September 7 through September 13, those who purchase the console will get a free game. It is certainly good timing considering that Destiny will be released during that time period.

For those of you hoping to purchase Destiny Fragrance, unfortunately it is not real. But Destiny is and will launch on September 9 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

What console will you be buying Destiny for?
