Huawei Mate 9 Comes In Standard And Curved Screen Variants To Fill Galaxy Note 7’s Void
Huawei’s latest Android flagship was developed under the codenames Manhattan and Long Island. Both smartphones feature an octa-core 64-bit HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC, 6GB RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. It’s also said that the Mate 9 will feature a dual-lens, dual-sensor main camera setup — both cameras are said to incorporate an f/2.0 lens and 20MP sensors. Both Mate 9 smartphones come with a 5.9-inch display, with the Manhattan opting to go the traditional FHD route.
Long Island, on the other hand, features a QHD dual-edge curved display in the same vein as the Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy Note 7. Long Island is also expected to support the Daydream VR platform, which would make it the first such smartphone (other than the Pixel and Pixel XL) to support Google’s latest virtual reality initiative.

Huawei is set to debut the new flagship Mate 9 series at an event in Germany on November 3rd. It’s been stated that U.S. residents will only have access to Manhattan, while Long Island will be exclusive to the Chinese market. That’s unfortunate given the extra perks that Long Island offers over Manhattan, but perhaps Huawei will change its mind between now and next month’s debut.
