HP Elite X3 Windows 10 Mobile Superphone Reportedly Priced At Eye-Popping $799
Remember the Elite X3 phablet HP revealed at Computex earlier this year? It looked like a promising handset, albeit one that's based on an operating system that's struggling to grab any kind of meaningful market share (Windows 10 Mobile). The stylish Elite X3 with its large size 5.96-inch QWHD AMOLED display seem poised to make a splash, only HP may be pricing it out of contention.
For a brief period, the Elite X3 made an appearance on HP's online storefront in the U.S. where it was listed for—brace yourself—$799! Phew, it's a good thing HP didn't decide to charge a dollar more, because $800 seems awfully high for a Windows 10 Mobile phone. Who can resist at $799, right? Probably a lot of people, if our sarcasm isn't evident.
HP has since removed the listing for the Elite X3 in the U.S., and products appear on pages ahead of schedule, they sometimes contain incomplete or inaccurate information. It's possible the price was simply a placeholder, though not likely—the Elite X3 is priced equally high in other territories. For example, it's going for 845.79 euros in Spain for the single SIM version and 882.09 euros for the dual SIM model. And in France they single and dual SIM variants are going for 833.80 euros and 874.80 euros, respectively.
To be fair, the Elite X3 is sporting some serious hardware. This isn't a case of a phone maker going big on the display and surrounding it with mediocre components. Check out this spec sheet:
The Elite X3 also boasts a fingerprint reader and has a few optional accessories such as the Desk Dock, which supports Windows 10 Continuum. It's the most powerful Windows 10 Mobile device out there, and for business users who want to go all-in with Windows, the asking price might not be a deterrent.
We suspect some home consumers will jump on board as well, though probably not in great numbers.
