Here’s An Epic 4K Gears of War 4 Gameplay Video To Go Along With Minimum PC Specs

Gears of War 4

Microsoft used the Gamescom gaming convention in Germany as an opportunity to show off the latest trailer for Gears of War 4, its upcoming third-person shooter being developed by The Coalition. The jaw-dropping trailer shows the fourth main installment in the Gears of War series (and fifth installment overall) running at 4K resolution on Windows 10, and while that will be an option when the game ships, you'll need a burly PC to run it that way. More on that in a moment.

The roughly ten and a half minute gameplay demo takes viewers on a trip through the "Rescue" chapter as heroes JD, Krait, and Del chase a rather menacing enemy through an old COG fort. They meet other threats along the way, which they dismiss with a combination of firepower, explosives, and close combat. Blood and gore (and plenty of banter) ensue. Have a look:

Getting back to what's required to play Gears of War 4, if you're on team AMD and want to run at 4K, the "ideal" system specs calls for an AMD FX-9590 processor, 16GB of RAM, Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card, and a solid state drive with 80GB of free storage space. And for those representing Intel, Microsoft suggests a Core i7-4790 processor and either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti or GeForce GTX 1080 (RAM and storage requirements are the same).

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't run an AMD processor with an NVIDIA graphics card or an Intel chip with one of AMD's recommended GPUs, Microsoft just separates its requirements this way so they're easy to digest. That said, here's a look at what you'll need to get your foot in the door versus what Microsoft recommends.

Notice that Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update applied is listed across the board. There's a technical reason for that, and it's because the game uses the DirectX 12 API that's only available in Windows 10. As for pushing the Anniversary Update, we suspect that's more of an arbitrary requirement—Microsoft's never been bashful about pushing users to Windows 10 and encouraging them to keep up with the latest updates.

Gears of War 4 releases to Xbox One and PC on October 11, 2016. In the meantime, you can pre-order a copy for $60 and receive for free the recently announced Brothers to the End Elite Gear Pack.
