Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Ready for Prime Time
Steve Jobs and company may want no part of Adobe's Flash platform, but plenty of other mobile entities do, including Google. Answering the call, Adobe today announced the release of its Flash Player 10.1 to mobile platform partners. According to Adobe, this release was redesigned from the ground up for performance and mobile specific features, insisting that it's not simply a port of the desktop variant.
"We are thrilled that more than three million Flash designers and developers are now able to unleash their creativity on the world of smart phones, tablets, netbooks, televisions and other consumer electronics," said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president, Platform Business at Adobe. "The combined power of the leading rich media technology platform with millions of passionate creatives is sure to impact the world in ways we haven’t even imagined yet."
Android users will be able to download Flash Player 10.1 from the Android Market once they're able to upgrade their devices to Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo. Some of the supported devices include the Dell Streak, Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, Motorola's Droid, Samsung Galaxy, and several others.
As Adobe explains it, Flash Player 10.1 for mobile gives users new interaction methods with support for mobile-specific input models. Users will be able to scale content to full screen mode with Smart Zooming, and with accelerometer support, you'll be able to view Flash content in both landscape and portrait mode. Should you receive a phone call while viewing Flash content, the player will automatically pause.
