13-inch HP Spectre x360 Gains OLED Display Option While 15.6-inch Variant Adds 4K Goodness
The era of laptops with crappy displays might be coming to an end. How so? The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has turned into a launchpad for several new laptops and hybrids with high quality panels, and such is the case with HP and its refreshed Spectre x360 convertible.
HP is rolling out two upgraded Spectre x360 models, one of which is its familiar 13.3-inch model, only now it's available with a Quad HD OLED display option. By switching over to OLED, customers can expect better color accuracy with a broader range of shades, improved contrast, and a higher color gamut at 103 percent, a significant improvement over 72 percent on WLED displays.
The OLED panel HP is running with is also thinner and weighs less, shaving 50 grams off the weight of the Spectre x360. It's powered with optional Intel Iris graphics and users can opt for up to 1TB of SSD storage to hold all those high resolution photos and videos.
HP's other Spectre x360 is a new 15.6-inch model with a 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160) touchscreen display. It too can be configured with optional Intel Iris graphics, while quad front-firing speakers custom tuned by Bang & Olufsen ensure that crisp visuals aren't ruined by poor quality audio when watching movies.
Customers can buy the bigger Spectre x360 with Intel's Skylake-based Core i5 and i7 processor options, up to 256GB of SSD storage, and up to 16GB of RAM. Other amenities include three USB 3.0 ports with Sleep and Charge technology, a single USB Type-C connector. mini DisplayPort, HDMI, and an audio jack.
The 15.6-inch Spectre x360 will be available on February 14 starting at $1,449, while the 13.3-inch models will ship later this year (no word yet on price).
