Spotify Shows What We Listened To Most In 2014, Offers 3-Month Premium Subscription For 99 Cents

Another year is almost in the books, but before we head into 2015, Spotify took a stroll down memory lane and revealed what we collectively listened to most this past year, which turned out to be Ed Sheeran. He beat out Eminem, Calvin Harris, Avicii, and David Guetta (in that order) for top male artist on the streaming service, while Katy Perry vibrated our eardrums more than any other female artist.

The rest of the top 5 in the female category include Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, Beyonce, and Lorde. Unfortunately, Spotify doesn't include the exact number of times each artist was streamed, so it's impossible to compare Katy Perry to Ed Sheeran, or to know if the top 5 groups (Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, OneRepublic, and One Direction) trumped any of the solo artists.

Nevertheless, there's some interesting data to digest. For example, January 7 turned out to be a day for sweating -- it had the highest spike for workout playlists as listeners undoubtedly made an effort to follow through with their New Year's resolution. And for whatever reason, May 30 was deemed the happiest day due to Spotify's 50 million listeners streaming "more happy music" on that day than any other.

Here's a look at the top 10 songs:
  1. Happy (Pharell Williams)
  2. Rather Be (Clean Bandit, feat. Jess Glynne)
  3. Summer (Calvin Harris)
  4. Dark Horse (Katy Perry)
  5. All of Me (John Legend)
  6. Timber (Pitbull)
  7. Rude (Magic)
  8. Waves (Mr. Probz)
  9. Problem (Ariana Grande)
  10. Counting Stars (OneRepublic)

Going into 2015, Spotify is offering three months of Premium service for just $0.99. After that, the cost is $9.99 per month, though if you're a student, you can subscribe for $4.99 per month.
