ASUS’ Svelte ZenPad 7 And ZenPad S 8.0 Tablets Arrive Stateside Via Best Buy
Two new Asus tablets hit shelves in the U.S. this week, giving shoppers some interesting (and fairly inexpensive) new options. The Asus ZenPad 7 and ZenPad S 8.0 aren’t available on U.S. version of Asus’ website just yet, but Best Buy already has them for sale online. It appears that neither tablet is available in brick and mortar stores, though you can walk into any Best Buy to order a tablet and have it shipped to your store.
One of the ZenPad 7’s most attractive features is its price. Just under $100 gets you a reasonably thin (0.35 inches) tablet running Lollipop. It has an Intel Atom x3-C3200 processor and 16GB of storage, but just 1GB of memory, which means that you likely won’t be able to open a ton of tabs in your browser or run multiple apps without bogging the tablet down. However, we can’t speak to its performance with certainty until we get a chance to take one for a spin ourselves. The 7.44-inch display is an uninspiring 1024 x 600, but for $99.99, the ZenPad’s specs aren’t bad at all.
Asus ZenPad S 8.0
The real star is the Asus ZenPad S 8.0, which has an 8-inch display with a resolution you’d generally find on a higher-end device: 2048 x 1536. That ought to make for excellent video watching and you’ll have plenty of room to store those movies, thanks to the 32GB of internal storage and the microSD slot. The tablet features a quad-core Intel Atom Z3530 processor and runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop). The ZenPad S 8.0 is remarkably slim at 0.27 inches thick.
The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 rolls in at $199.99. Considering the hardware you get for the price, this looks like decent deal. As one Best Buy customer noted on the store’s website, there aren’t a ton of accessories available for the tablet yet, but unless you need case in your favorite color, the ZenPad S 8.0 is probably worth a look.
