Microsoft Releases Windows 8.1 Patch to Un-Bork Your Mouse, Reduce Lag for Gamers

If you've held off on updating your operating system to Windows 8.1 (free for Windows 8 users) because of reports of mouse problems following the upgrade (specifically, issues with lag, stutter, and freezing), you'll be happy to know that Microsoft has issued a fix, just as the Redmond company promised it would.

Following a series of complaints on the Internet, Microsoft acknowledged last week that the Windows 8.1 update could bork (see definition No.1) your mouse in certain games and situations. The culprit, as it turns out, is related to changes Windows 8.1 makes to mouse input processing for low latency interaction scenarios, Microsoft says.

Razer Naga

Here are a list of games Microsoft says the fix addresses:
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops - Multiplayer
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Multiplayer
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Zombies
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts - Multiplayer
  • Call of Duty: MW2 Call of Duty: MW2 - Multiplayer
  • Call of Duty: MW3 Call of Duty: MW3 - Multiplayer
  • Call of Duty: MW Call of Duty: MW - Multiplayer
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  • Counter Strike: Source
  • Deus Ex : Human Revolution
  • Deus Ex : Human Revolution Director's Cut
  • Hitman Absolution
  • Hitman Sniper Challenge
  • Half Life 2
  • Metro 2033 Portal
  • Tomb Raider

If the title you're having problems in isn't listed, Microsoft also includes instructions on how to extend the update to other games. Hit the source link for step-by-step instructions, and happy gaming!

Faster DX11.2 even when in the W7 feature level maybe? Mouse input is part of DX upgrades, and the reason why those games are affected is because they tried to bypass issues in W7 and below.

Now if only they could address the Defrag issue that causes error code 0x80070057 and has done so ever since beta versions.
